The Maldives is a small kit and we are not going to pad it. A resort trip genuinely does not need much, and selling you more would be the easiest and least honest thing on this site.
Everything is wet
Every transfer is a boat or a seaplane, and both of them get spray. A dry bag is the single most useful thing in this kit and it is the one people leave behind.
The water is fine, in a specific way
Resorts serve desalinated or filtered water that is safe to drink. On local islands, stick to bottled or filtered. That is a genuine distinction rather than a hedge, and it is why there is no filter bottle in this kit — the resort has already done it.
Local islands are not resorts
Outside the resorts the Maldives is a conservative Muslim country. Cover up away from designated tourist beaches, and do not expect alcohol to be sold.
