Oktoberfest runs from late September into the first weekend of October, which is a genuinely useful thing about it: it fills the gap between the European summer peak and the Christmas markets.
It is also the best time of year to be in Europe. Warm enough, quiet enough, and cheaper than July by a wide margin.
