What Australians get wrong about Maldives
- Reef-safe sunscreen is required at many resorts and is genuinely better for the reef.
- Local islands outside the resorts are conservative — cover up away from designated tourist beaches.
- Alcohol is not sold on local islands. Resorts are the exception, not the rule.
- A dry bag matters more here than anywhere else on this list — everything moves by boat or seaplane.
